This guide covers two Microsoft Copilot options: the AI features already included with your Microsoft 365 Business Premium subscription, and the full Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on that provides deep integration across your Office applications. As of December 2025, Copilot is powered by GPT-5.2 with improved code generation and multilingual capabilities, and GPT-5.3/5.4 models are now available in Copilot Studio for agent development with MCP (Model Context Protocol) server integration.

Copilot Features Included with Microsoft 365 Business Premium

Your current Microsoft 365 Business Premium subscription includes several AI-powered Copilot features at no additional cost.

Copilot with Commercial Data Protection: AI chat accessible through Copilot.microsoft.com and Microsoft Edge sidebar. Commercial data protection ensures your prompts and responses are not saved, not used to train models, and not visible to Microsoft. Provides web-grounded answers with citation links.
Copilot in Windows: AI assistant accessible from the Windows taskbar. Provides general productivity help, writing assistance, and information lookup. Does not connect to your Microsoft 365 tenant data.
Microsoft Designer: AI image generation and design assistance integrated into Microsoft 365 web apps and Loop. Create branded visuals, social media graphics, and presentations.
Copilot Sidebar in Teams: Access to the Copilot sidebar for general, web-based questions. Basic meeting recordings and transcripts (manual review required). Does NOT include Intelligent Recap.

Pro Tip: For Copilot to work in Excel, data must be formatted as an Excel Table (Select data -> Insert -> Table) and AutoSave must be turned on (file saved to OneDrive or SharePoint). This is the most common reason users report Copilot is 'not working' in Excel.
